Annapurna Overview

Annapurna serves traditional Indian cuisine in a small restaurant. The Indian owners are friendly and hardworking, with dad overlooking everything and everyone. The menu is packed with lots of Indian classics like curries, tandoori, naan, tikka massala, biryani and palek paneer, with plenty of options for vegetarians.
There are 2 dining rooms, with the upstairs room being the more spacious and charming one. Downstairs you feel like you almost sit on the sidewalk, and your neighbours are practically sitting at the same table as you. On the walls are posters of Annapurna, a series of peaks in the Himalayas, and other Indian paraphernalia. For a more trendy Indian dining experience, we suggest Tigre Tigre, but if you are looking for authenticity, Annapurna is your restaurant.
The Chamonixinfo team has visited Annapurna on several occasions and we have tried a number of dishes. We recommend starting with some papadums with raita and Indian pickle, and one of the biryanis or mixed grill as a main. A good idea is to order several dishes and share them. This has been made easy as the food is presented in small bowls. This way you can enjoy many delights the Indian cuisine has to offer. Do not forget to order some fresh naan bread, especially the garlic naan. The mango lassi yoghurt drink is a nice refreshment while eating spicy food, or can make a delicious and sweet dessert.
Annapurna gets mixed reviews from its customers. They don’t have a clay tandoor oven, resulting in grilled tandoori chicken for example. Rice has to be ordered as a side dish, as it doesn’t come with any of the mains (except for rice based mains) The price however suggest rice is included with your meal. In general prices are a bit higher than you expect for an Indian restaurant. We have heard customers complain about the service, but we have never experienced this our self. The staff are very hospitable in our opinion and dad doesn’t mind throwing in an extra papadum with your take away.

    edouard bonin from sallanches

    Unmissable ANNAPURNA

    nicolas from grenoble

I don't agree with the editors comments. The atmosphere of the restaurant is in fact very convivial and nothing like eating at the same table as your neighbour. The view from the terrace and the downstairs restaurant in exceptional. The price reflects the high quality of the service and cuisine. As a specialist of Indian cuisine, I can say that the grills are exceptional and really reflect meals that one would find in India. All the ingredients (fruit, meat etc...) are fresh and of excellent quality. On the other hand, Tigre Tigre is nothing but an imitation of Indian cuisine - not at all like an Indian dining experience, this restaurant offers adapted and westernised Indian cuisine. Tigre Tigre should not be recommended to any connaisseur of Indian cuisine. The dishes lack spice and the service is too cold for an Indian restaurant! *translation by editor
