Le Caveau Overview

Le Caveau is a relaxed international restaurant with different types of food on their menu from Swedish meatballs and stir fries, to Savoie specialities and pizzas. It is extremely popular with locals and tourists, as it is not too expensive and caters to everyone’s taste. The restaurant is located in the centre of town, next to Chez Yang restaurant, but can be difficult to find as it is underground.
Walking down the stairs into the restaurant, you first pass a large bar and the wood fired pizza oven giving you a warm welcome. The dining room consists of two large, arched caves made of stone that were built more than 300 years ago. It has served as a sheep pen, wine and cheese cellar and nightclub ever since, and is now a restaurant.
The front cave has booth style seating, is dark, warm and intimate. The back cave is suitable for big groups of people, but is less atmospheric and we do not recommend it for a romantic dinner. As this place is so popular, making a reservation is a good idea anyway, and you can specify where you want to be seated at the same time.
Service here is great. The staff are multi-lingual and very helpful, friendly and patient. The food is in general quite average, with acceptable pizzas and decent meats. One of the highlights on the menu is the their mozzarella garlic bread, which is the best we’ve ever had and we always order when we eat at Le Caveau. The desserts here are good too, especially the brownie and the vanilla ice cream with forest fruits and melted white chocolate.

We SO love the garlic bread!

Le Caveau is a funny place. Hard to find, but somehow always really busy (it's best to book in high season). You've got to try the garlic bread - it's more like a croissant-shaped thing which just oozes garlic and butter. Forget the cholesterol for a night - you can ski it off the next day. Pizzas are OK, but we do like the Swedish meatballs - and yes, they're nicer than the ones at Ikea!
