The fire, which started in a chimney, took hold around 21:30 and the hotel owner alerted the emergency services and evacuated the nine clients and one member of staff who were staying in the annexe part of the hotel when it caught fire.

No-one was injured in the blaze which was accidental according to Gendarmes. Over 30 firefighters from Chamonix, St Gervais and Le Fayet were on the scene, but half the annexe to the hotel has been completely destroyed.
