La Verte Ski Alpinisme race in Les Houches Overview

This heart-pumping ski alpinisme race takes place after night fall on the mythic piste La Verte in Les Houches. More used to having the world's best skiers hammering down it, the piste verte goes all topsy-turvy with racers heading UP the piste as fast as they can.

Open to all, the race is actually part of the Mountain Ski Tour series sponsored by Cluses company Somfy and organised by the High Mountain Military School and Les Houches tourist office.

Even if you're not planning to compete, heading to Les Houches with a head torch to cheer the competitors on as the get their skins on their skis and head off up the slope, reaching the top in less than 45 minutes has to be worthy of a cheer!
